About Menstrual Cups Project

Period Poverty and Education is one of the most prevalent types of proverty in the world, especially in Africa.
The girl child suffers in many aspects of her womanhood due to a natural biological function. The inconvenience of the monthly menstrual cycle is amplified when resources are limited. In 2020 as part of Covered Clothing Project, we were led to tap into the area of Period Poverty for our Domboshava women.

We knew this was a temporary fix to an exponential challenge. However, we wanted to initiate our dream to manage period poverty and improve this aspect of the women’s lives. This step of faith was a revelation for us indeed. When we hosted the Domboshava Presentation, we were humbled when the young women marvelled at receiving their very first sanitary pad pack. Many had never seen one lest of use one. In the midst of a heavy day of distributing clothes etc, our Team began teaching Period health to our ladies. Not only that, when the team went to Govera Primary and Secondary schools, the teachers couldn’t be more thankful. They shared that Period Poverty affects the girl child in so many ways

Loss of Dignity (when they’re clothes or uniforms spoil due to inadequate protection)
Lack of adequate underwear to manage the days of the cycle and lack of water supplies to keep up hygiene during this time
High absenteeism due to the above and also period pain so could do with supplies like Ibruprofen and Paracetamol
Lack of finances to purchase adequate resources required

Our hope is to help make the monthly cycle more sustainable, bearable and dignified.
Our target is to begin supplying the schools of Govera with resuable Menstrual Cups and support with Period Education.
